This year we had a delegation of 16 teachers & students coming from allover Japan for the annual winter event organized by our Federation. For one entire week we had Nishiumi sensei for Jodo, Kobayashi & Uehara sensei for Iaido & Tahara, Hirakawa, Nomura and others for kendo. Around 400 persons travelled to the Centre Sportif ‘Forêt de Soignes’ for the different classes. On Saturday afternoon, exams from 1st up to 5th dan were organized in Kendo. Well-known dojoleader of Agehachô Budokai, VKIJF Iaido & Jodo Technical Committee Member, Patrik DEMUYNCK, got the confirmation that he successfully succeeded for shogo title “Renshi” in Jodo last month (November) in Tokyo.

On Saturday November 24th, 140 competitors, 24 referees, motodashi, kakari-in & enthousiasts had their annual ‘rendez-vous’ in Auderghem for the national “kyu” (beginners) tournaments. The day was also an opportunity for some of the participants to try ‘ikkyu’ or ‘shodan’ examination. Last October 21st 2012, the frenchspeaking wing of our federation (BKR) organized its first Yudansha Kendo Tournament in Châtelineau. This tournament was also preceeded by a referee seminar. About 60 persons took part in the event. A success for a first attempt!

The Belgian delegation joined world’s greatest gathering this year in Novara (Italy). Important meetings of FIK & EKF had also place before the tournament. The 15th iaido championships organised this year by the BKR took place sunday 27/05/2012 in Louvain-La-Neuve (Blocry) and started at 10:30 sharp. The hall had been nicely prepared with 2 shiaijo and a warming-up area. 6 referees were appointed for each shiaijo (A & B) which made it possible to switch on a regular base. As the matches went on, soon it became as hot inside the hall, as it was outside … The morning competition ended at 13:00 and we could restart at 14:30 with the finals and Embu taikai for 5 dan. On March 11th, almost all Belgian kendo dojo had their annual rendez-vous in Forest-Vorst for the Belgian “Open” Kendo Championships. This tournament is open for all members of BKR & VKIJF which are at least registered for one year and not taking part in any other national championship. Three individual categories (Junior, Ladies & Men) as well as a tournament is organized in a one day long event. This year, 10 juniors, 13 ladies, 81 men & 17 teams took part.
