Belgian Iaido team report – EIC 218 in Zawiercie, Poland. WOW !!! That is the first reaction after this 25 th European Iaido Championship last weekend . Although I already attended in earlier championships as referee, this year I was really ‘on the competitors side’ as Belgian Team manager to see (& love) it all. This year’s Belgian referees were Patrik Demuynck and Luc Defraeye. After a long travel, from Brussels via Frankfurt to Katowice airport, we arrived on Thursday evening at Zawiercie. The 8-9-10 June 2018 the International Iaido seminar took place in Bruges, Belgium. It was organized by the ABKF with the help of the EKF (European Kendo Federation). Under the guidance of the Japanese delegation sent by the ZNKR, we had a two days seminar and gradings on Sunday afternoon. The Japanese delegation consisted of Kamikokuryo Shuichi 8th dan Hanshi, Oda Nobuaki 8th dan Kyoshi and Mikawa Noriaki 8th dan Kyoshi and they were assisted by European 7th dan sensei. Iaido Seminar with high-level instructors from ZNKR and Europe, Seminar is OPEN to all grades (Dan and Kyu) and is followed by 1st to 5th ABKF gradings and 6th and 7th Dan EKF gradings.
This event is organized by the ABKF with the support of ZNKR and the authorization of EKF.

In December since 27 years in a row, ABKF organise its Winter event for Kendo, Iaido and Jodo. This year, almost 400 persons coming from 31 different countries showed up at (at least) one of the trainings organized from Tuesday to Sunday. During the weekend, also grading sessions took place where we welcomed around 130 candidates and we ended with the traditional Kendo competitions ( ladies, men individuals and the team of three). The 24th European Iaido Championships 2017 was this year organized in Torino, Italy and listed more than 212 competitors. The Belgian team did great in the individual taikai and won 5 medals with Habets Arno 1st dan Bronze, Vermeulen Karen 2nd dan Bronze, Vervack Valentin 4th dan Bronze, Kanto Yuki 6th dan Bronze and Simonini Michael 6th dan Silver.
On sunday the Belgian team composed of Pauwelyn Nicolas, Vervack Valentin, Daan Heungens and Kim Croes did a wonderful job by winning the Gold medal.
