At the end of the first day of the 25th EKC, our member, Sara Van Laecken got a fighting spirit award in the “Junior” category.
The second day has seen the “men” team matches. This year, our national team got the second place in this tournament after very strong matches against Italy, Lithuania, Russia, Austria, Spain and finally France… details are on the EKF website and more pictures available at social networks. For the 4th time, all ABKF Yudansha had their National Championships in Forest/Vorst on Sunday March 3rd.
We had 5 pool of ladies, 3 pool of juniors and 29 poolof men attending the individual tournaments and 17 team for the team tournament.

At the end of the 2013 EKF Kendo Referee Seminar, our Federation had the honour to congratulate Yoshinobu Kurogi from Wakakoma Kenshi Kai & Wesley Haeke from Kojika for their achievement for 7th & 6th dan. Beside them, also other successfull Belgian candidates had the pleasure to pass a grade. Congratulations to all of them!
This year we had a delegation of 16 teachers & students coming from allover Japan for the annual winter event organized by our Federation. For one entire week we had Nishiumi sensei for Jodo, Kobayashi & Uehara sensei for Iaido & Tahara, Hirakawa, Nomura and others for kendo. Around 400 persons travelled to the Centre Sportif ‘Forêt de Soignes’ for the different classes. On Saturday afternoon, exams from 1st up to 5th dan were organized in Kendo. On Saturday November 24th, 140 competitors, 24 referees, motodashi, kakari-in & enthousiasts had their annual ‘rendez-vous’ in Auderghem for the national “kyu” (beginners) tournaments. The day was also an opportunity for some of the participants to try ‘ikkyu’ or ‘shodan’ examination. Thanks everybody for making this day so big that we are thinking about a new formula for next year which will make the event even more enjoyable for all… Hereby the complete results in pdf-format. Last October 21st 2012, the frenchspeaking wing of our federation (BKR) organized its first Yudansha Kendo Tournament in Châtelineau. This tournament was also preceeded by a referee seminar. About 60 persons took part in the event. A success for a first attempt!

On the first weekend of October, for the 4th year in a row, the Belgian National Kendo Team staff organized a complete weekend seminar which is the occasion of introducing the personal view on kendo of a foreign high-ranked teacher. This year, the invitation went to Lorenzo Zago, Renshi 7th dan, member of the Italian federation. Participants were basically those interested in a selection for the upcoming EKC. The Belgian delegation joined world’s greatest gathering this year in Novara (Italy). Important meetings of FIK & EKF had also place before the tournament. More info will be available through your dojo leaders soon regarding the decisions taken. On the first day, 4 out of 7 from our men delegation members took part in the individual competition. On March 11th, almost all Belgian kendo dojo had their annual rendez-vous in Forest-Vorst for the Belgian “Open” Kendo Championships. This tournament is open for all members of BKR & VKIJF which are at least registered for one year and not taking part in any other national championship. Three individual categories (Junior, Ladies & Men) as well as a tournament is organized in a one day long event. This year, 10 juniors, 13 ladies, 81 men & 17 teams took part.
